我们的道德感究竟发生了什么? 我们曾经有过道德感吗? 这些字是什么意思呢? 它们同那个这些日子很少使用的词——良知，相关吗? 良知是不是不仅同我们自己的行为有关，而且也联系着我们对他人行为所具有的责任感呢? 这些都死掉了吗? 看看关塔那摩湾，好几百人被扣押在这里三年多没有起诉，没有律师或没有合法程序，从严格的法律意义来说他们将被永远扣押在此。这种持续着的非法的结构完全与《日内瓦公约》相违背。这在所谓的“国际社会”中不仅被忍受下来，而且几乎无人给予思索。这种罪恶行径是一个国家犯下的，它宣称自己是“自由世界的领导”。我们曾经想过那些被困于关塔那摩湾的人吗? 关于他们媒介说过什么呢? 他们偶然被提到——在报纸第六页上的一小条。他们被送到了无人之地，从未有人从那里回来过。现在那里很多人在进行绝食抗议，被强迫灌入食物，他们当中也有英国居民。这些强行灌食的过程不被外人看见。没有任何镇静剂或者麻醉措施。一跟管子从鼻子去进入喉管，你会吐血。这是折磨。英国外交大臣说了什么呢? 什么也没说。英国首相说了什么呢? 什么也没说。为何不说话呢? 因为美国说了: 对我们在关塔那摩湾的做法提出批评是不友好的行为。你要不然和我们一起，要不然是我们的敌人。所以布莱尔闭上了嘴巴。
