从此，戴铁面具的犯人很少出现在窗前了。他弹的吉他曲子也比从前更忧伤了。他一天比一天沉默，最后病倒了。
医生被召过来为他诊治。后来，医生写了一篇有关这个戴铁面具的男子的文章。但是，他从不知道这个人的名字，也没见过他的面目。
“他应该是一个英俊潇洒的人。他皮肤黝黑，声音悦耳，他从未提及自己，也从未抱怨过什么。”
